There
was a time when there was no division of territory and all the
community was working as one body. Then came division and
churches and other instruction divided into separate diocese had
full functional facilities except for Lahore Diocese which did not
own have any medical facility which includes hospital and health
centers seen this difficulty sine past many years Lahore Diocese has
now formed a medical board.
The
Project was initiated by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Alexander John Malik,
Bishop of Lahore Diocese, Church of Pakistan in response to the need
for basic health care for women and children of the communities.
With his encouragement Dr. Gillian Burton the wife of the Vicar of
St. Thomas Church began work in 1982 with one untrained Traditional
Birth Attendant (TBA) and an interpreter. Dr. Burton director the
work of the project till 1992 training over 30 health workers and TB
as in six communities. These activities were supplemented in 1990 by
Mrs. Elizabeth Bragg who initiated the Care for differently able
children. Initially conducted by expatriate volunteers this work has
expanded and developed with community care workers talking over
responsibility.
The project has been working in urban squatter settlements on
humanitarian grounds for both Christians and non-Christians in
Islamabad. The program is serving in 8 slums to 4000 families
